Old cast iron fireback – this fireback is a good size and comes to a point at the top. Its width makes it perfect for an inglenook fireplace. Always difficult to age fireback but imagine this to be twentieth century. Obviously extremely heavy. The moulded decoration depicts a crown over an indistinct coat of arms. Would certainly suit period property. These heavy cast iron firebacks were predominantly used to absorb heat from the fire rather than it disappearing up the usuall large chimney cavity!
