Antique Satin Birch Pedestal Desk with rectangular top with a leather inset. Surrounded by a nice moulded edge the leather decorated with gold tooling. There are nine drawers and the four housed each side in the pedestals are graduated. The drawers have nice small wooden knobs and the locks are by Hobbs & Co, London, probably the best lock company of its time. The desk stands on a good solid plinth concealing casters for ease of movement. It also comes apart – the top merely slotting onto the two base pedestals. Great for moving, cleaning etc. Circa 1860 this pedestal desk from the middle of the Victorian era is cabinet making at its best and in excellent order.
